Documenting Border Barriers is a growing compendium of over 25 portraits of anti-migration border walls by artist Pamela Dodds, a research-based series of etching-and-relief prints displayed as an installation in the Grebel Gallery.
As the number of people on the move has risen in recent years, so has the building of physical barriers. Since 2000, the number of physical border barriers in the world has risen from about 15 to more than 80. Dodds works in drypoint etching, scratching the image into the plate, so that razor wire, cement and steel are portrayed with visceral immediacy; each print is paired with a text print giving details like height, length and surveillance systems.
The Centre is on the fourth floor of Conrad Grebel University College, accessible by elevator and stairwell. Opening reception: Saturday, November 21, 2:30–4:30 pm.
