The Textures of Us is a portrait exhibition by photographer Carol Spooner that celebrates the beauty, individuality and presence of Black people, inviting viewers to look beyond skin colour and into the details that make each individual who they are. Through a series of fine art portraits, the project explores how physical features, from the varying shades of skin to the diverse textures of hair, carry stories of ancestry, migration and identity within the Black community of Waterloo Region.
Many of the portraits have QR codes so visitors can hear participants share reflections in their own voices.
Berlin Tower ARTSPACE, Kitchener City Hall. Open during City Hall hours; free.
